CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT - CONTINUED

INSPECTION
1.
Visually inspect main bearing caps, capscrews, and washers for damage. If damaged, replace.
2.
Visually inspect upper and lower main bearing shells for nicks, scratches, or damage. If damaged, replace.
3.
Visually inspect crankshaft vehicle surfaces for scratches or nicks. If scratches or nicks can be felt with fingernail after
polishing, replace crankshaft.
4.
Visually inspect threaded holes in both ends of crankshaft for damage. If more than three holes are damaged in one end,
replace crankshaft.
5.
Visually inspect crankshaft gear for cracks, broken, or missing teeth. If damaged, replace gear.
6.
Measure inside diameter of crankshaft gear bore. Measurement must be 3.3823 to 3.3833 in. (85.910 to 85.935 mm). If
not as specified, replace crankshaft gear.

7.
Measure main bearing shell thickness. Measurement must be 0.1533 to 0.1553 in. (3.894 to 3.945 mm). If not as speci-
fied, replace bearing.
