CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT - CONTINUED
Using a plastic-faced hammer, install crankshaft key (8) in crankshaft keyway.
Use protective clothing when handling heated or hot components. Failure to do so will cause serious burns.
DO NOT exceed specified heating time or temperature when heating crankshaft gear. Damage may be
done to gear and teeth.
Heat crankshaft gear (9) to 350F (177C) for a minimum of 1.5 hours, but NOT more than 6 hours.
Apply a coating of lubriplate to crankshaft gear journal.
Ensure timing mark and part number on crankshaft gear face away from crankshaft when installed.
Failure to orient gear prior to installation can result in damage to engine.
Orient crankshaft gear (9) with timing mark and part number facing away from crankshaft.
DO NOT use water or oil to reduce cooling time. Gear may crack. Allow gear to air cool.
Align crankshaft gear keyway with crankshaft key (8) and install gear within 30 seconds. Allow gear to cool.
