PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD MAINTENANCE - CONTINUED
DISASSEMBLY - CONTINUED
Remove two retaining rings (12) securing piston pin (13) in place. Discard retaining rings.
DO NOT use hammer to remove piston pin. Piston can distort, causing it to seize in cylinder.
If piston pin is not easily removed:
Heat container of water to 212F (100C).
Insert piston and connecting rod assembly in container for 15 minutes.
Use wood dowel stock to push piston pin from piston assembly.
When piston pin is removed from articulated piston, skirt and crown will separate.
Tag piston pin (13), connecting rod (8), skirt (15), and crown (14) with cylinder number from which they were removed.
