CAMSHAFT AND DRIVE GEAR REPLACEMENT - CONTINUED
INSTALLATION - CONTINUED
Use protective clothing when handling heated or hot components. Failure to do so will cause serious burns.
Camshaft drive gear timing marks and part number MUST be facing away from camshaft when
gear is installed.
Maintain camshaft in a vertical position until gear has cooled and DO NOT use water to reduce
cooling time; gear will crack.
Camshaft drive gear MUST be heated to 450F (235C) for a minimum of one and not more than six
hours. Installation must be accomplished within 30 seconds or gear may need to be reheated.
Apply lubriplate to camshaft drive gear journal.
Align heated camshaft drive gear keyway with key in camshaft. Install camshaft drive gear on camshaft.
Measure camshaft thrust washer plate clearance. Measurement must be 0.005 to 0.013 in. (0.13 to 0.33 mm).

Apply lubriplate to camshaft bushings (12) and camshaft (9).
