OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY MAINTENANCE - CONTINUED

INSPECTION
NOTE
Ensure oil pump and component parts have been cleaned prior to inspection.
1.
Perform this procedure to determine if disassembly is required. If any of these conditions are noted, disassembly and
further inspection is required.
a.
Turn main drive gear by hand to check gears for freedom of movement.
b.
Visually inspect drive gear for cracked, worn, or broken teeth.
c.
Visually inspect rear cover plate shaft bores for excessive wear or discoloration.
d.
Measure driveshaft end clearance in two locations 90 degrees apart. Clearance must be 0.0025 to 0.0106 in. (0.064
to 0.269 mm).
DRIVESHAFT END CLEARANCE
NOTE
Perform the following inspections on component parts of oil pump.

Visually inspect gear pockets in pump body for excessive wear or scoring. If excessive wear or scoring is found, oil
pump MUST be replaced.
3.
Visually inspect internal oil pump gears for cracked or broken teeth or excessive wear. If found, replace gears.
