G
Afloat and ashore intermediate maintenance can remove, replace, and use
the item. (Navy only)
K
Contractor facility can remove, replace, and use the item.
Z
Item is not authorized to be removed, replaced, or used at any maintenance
level.
D
Depot can remove, replace, and use the item.
NOTE
Army will use C in the third position. However, for joint service publications, other services
may use O.
Fourth Position. The maintenance code entered in the fourth position tells you whether or not the item is to be
repaired and identifies the lowest maintenance class with the capability to do complete repair (perform all
authorized repair functions).

Crew (operator) is the lowest class that can do complete repair.
F
Maintainer is the lowest class that can do complete repair of the item.
H
Below Depot Sustainment is the lowest class that can do complete repair of
the item.
L
Specialized repair activity is the lowest class that can do complete repair of
the item.
D
Depot is the lowest class that can do complete repair of the item.
G
Both afloat and ashore intermediate levels are capable of complete repair of
item. (Navy only)
K
Complete repair is done at contractor facility.
Z
Nonreparable. No repair is authorized.
B
No repair is authorized. No parts or special tools are authorized for
maintenance of "B" coded item. However, the item may be reconditioned by
adjusting, lubricating, etc., at the user level.
Recoverability Code. Recoverability codes are assigned to items to indicate the disposition action on
unserviceable items. The recoverability code is shown in the fifth position of the SMR code as follows:
