CAUTION
To check bearing clearance, the crankshaft will
have to be lifted up and held against the upper
halves of the main bearings. Do not try to sup-
port crankshaft in this position by the wire.
Use a jack under the crankshaft counterweight
next to the bearing which is to be measured.
8. Bearing clearance
Using plastigage, check as follows:
a. Put plastigage in position as shown at right.
b. Put clean oil on threads of the cap bolts.
c. Install the caps and tighten all bolts finger
tight.
d. Tighten the bolts on the tab end of each
cap to a torque of 190 lb. ft. (257
13.6 N-m).
e. Tighten the bolts on the other end of each
cap to a torque of 190 +10 lb. ft. (257.6
13.6 N m).
