Step 1.
Defective vibration damper.
a. Inspect vibration damper. If OK, do Step 2.
b. Replace vibration damper. (Refer to page 4-45.)
Step 2.
Excessive valve noise.
a. Inspect push rods and rocker levers for damage and
wear. If OK, do Step 3.
b. Replace push rods and/or rocker levers.
Step 3.
Defective turbocharger.
a. Remove and inspect turbocharger impeller and wheel for
housing contact. (Refer to page 5-10.)
If OK, do Step 4.
b. Replace turbocharger.

Gear train noise.
a. Inspect and measure gear backlash. (Refer to
