Section I. TORQUE CONVERTER MAINTENANCE
TORQUE CONVERTER INSTALLATION
Lifting device (275 lbs. capacity)
SUPPLIES:
EQUIPMENT CONDITIONS: Outriggers fully extended and lowered. (Refer to
TM 5-3810-306-10.)
Boom positioned over side. (Refer to TM 5-3810-306-10.)
Negative battery cable disconnected at shunt. (Refer to
TM 5-3810-306-20.)
Engine top hood and rear decking removed. (Refer to
TM 5-3810-306-20.)
Transmission oil drained. (Refer to LO 5-3810-306-12.)

Remove torque converter from crane and move
REMOVAL:

TAG AND DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL WIRES TO
4. REMOVE RING GEAR (3) FROM FLYWHEEL (4) IF
TORQUE CONVERTER (1).
NECESSARY.
2. TAG AND REMOVE HYDRAULIC LINES TO TWO
a. Remove thirty two bolts (5) securing ring gear (3)
HYDRAULIC PUMPS
(7)
AND
(8)
AND
to flywheel (4). Discard bolts (5).
CONVERTER CHARGING PUMP (11). PLUG OR
CAP OPENINGS.
b. Remove ring gear (3) and back-up ring (6).
NOTE
5. REMOVE TWO HYDRAULIC PUMPS (7) AND (8)
AND PUMP DISCONNECT (9), IF NECESSARY.
Tie lines up to prevent leakage.
3. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER (1).
6. IF NEW TORQUE CONVERTER IS TO BE
INSTALLED, REMOVE ALL COMPONENTS AND
NOTE
INSTALL THEM ON NEW TORQUE CONVERTER
IN SAME LOCATION.
Torque
converter
weighs
approximately 267.50 pounds (121.34
kg) dry.
a. Attach an adequate lifting strap around torque
converter and take up any slack.
b. Remove twelve bolts (2) and washers (10)
securing torque converter housing to engine
flywheel housing.
