FRONT MAIN OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT - CONTINUED

INSTALLATION
NOTE
Ensure gasket surfaces on crankshaft and front gear cover have been thoroughly cleaned and all
old gasket and seal material has been removed.
Front gear cover, seal, and gasket are marked for correct orientation with an arrow. Clamping
ring is marked with four punch marks.
1.
Orient new gasket (4) with arrow mark on front gear cover (6) and install gasket.
NOTE
DO NOT use lubricant of any kind to install oil seal. Oil seal must be installed with lip of seal and
crankshaft clean and dry. Ensure yellow dust lip of oil seal is facing out.
2.
Position new oil seal (3) on crankshaft (7) and match arrow mark on oil seal with mark on front gear cover.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to new seal, seal installer provided with oil seal kit must be used.

Using installation tool, install oil seal (3).

Position clamping ring (2) on crankshaft (7) with four punch marks orientated at 11:30 o'clock position.
5.
Apply a coating of thread sealant to six mounting screws (1) and install hand tight.
6.
Tighten screws (1) in star pattern to 60 lb-in. (7 Nm). Retighten screws in same pattern to 180 lb-in. (20 Nm).
