CLEANING
WARNING
When using steam cleaner, wear protective clothing and eye protection. Hot steam will cause seri-
ous burns.
Compressed air used for cleaning or drying purposes, or for clearing restrictions, should never
exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Use protective equipment and exercise caution to avoid injury to person-
nel.
1.
Steam clean crankshaft and dry with compressed air.
2.
Clear out threaded holes for flywheel and vibration damper mounting in ends of crankshaft.
3.
Clean crankshaft oil drilling passages of deposits.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 type III is toxic and flammable. Wear protective goggles and gloves and
use only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes and do not breathe
vapors. DO NOT use near open flames or excessive heat. The solvent's flash point is 200F (94C). If
you become dizzy while using dry cleaning solvent, get fresh air immediately and get medical aid. If
solvent contacts eyes, wash your eyes and get medical aid immediately.
4.
Clean crankshaft gear with solvent and dry with compressed air.
5.
Clean main bearing caps, capscrews, and main bearings with solvent and dry with compressed air.
6.
Apply clean engine oil to crankshaft and crankshaft gear to prevent rust.
