NOTE
Thrust bearings must be installed with grooves facing crankshaft.

Apply lubriplate to two lower thrust bearings (5) and install in no. 4 main bearing cap (4).
NOTE
Ensure main bearing caps are installed on journal with stamped number of cap matching number on
oil pan flange.
13.
Apply clean engine oil to main bearing capscrews and washers and allow excess oil to drain off. Install main bearing
caps nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 with washers and capscrews. Hand tighten capscrews.
CAUTION
No. 4 main bearing cap is doweled and must be positioned to match locating dowels in cylinder block
saddle. If main bearing cap and dowels are not aligned, cylinder block and main bearing cap will be
damaged when screws are tightened.

Install no. 4 main bearing cap (4) with capscrews (2) and washers (1). Hand tighten capscrews.

Tighten main bearing capscrews in this manner and in sequence shown:
a.
Tighten capscrews to 50 lb-ft (68 Nm).
b.
Tighten capscrews to 105 lb-ft (142 Nm).
c.
Tighten to 155 lb-ft (210 Nm).
d.
Loosen capscrews completely.
e.
Tighten to 50 lb-ft (68 Nm).
f.
Tighten to 105 lb-ft (142 Nm).
g.
Tighten to 155 lb-ft (210 Nm).
